Andy O. Hackett Jr., age 87 of Wanette, passed away Tuesday June 18, 2013, in Enid, Oklahoma.
Andy was born November 26, 1925 in Trousdale, Oklahoma, the oldest of five children born to Andy Orson Hackett Sr. and Eula Gertrude Harp Hackett.
He was raised in Trousdale and attended school there. Like many at that time, Andy dropped out of school to work on the farm in order to help his family.
He served in the United States Army as a sharpshooter during World War II. His exemplary service earned him the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, the EAME Campaign Ribbon with one bronze Star, a Victory Ribbon and the Army of Occupation Ribbon of Germany.
After the war, he returned back home to Oklahoma and married his true love, a young lady from Trousdale named Pauline A. Adams. They made their home in Wanette where together they raised a daughter, Kathy and three sons, Stanley, Paul and Matt.
Andy was a hard worker and great provider and worked as a machinist for many years. He had a wonderful sense of humor and never missed an opportunity to tell a good joke. He enjoyed boot scooting and was a member of the American Legion in Konawa.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wanette and he will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Hackett; and his parents, Eula and Andy O. Hackett Sr.
Andy leaves behind his daughter, Kathy Blackwell of Cromwell, Oklahoma; three sons, Stanley Hackett of Konawa, Oklahoma; Paul Hackett of Slaughtersville, Oklahoma and Matt Hackett of Moore, Oklahoma; two sisters, Inez Gould of Ada, Oklahoma; and Velda Rogers of Choctaw, Oklahoma; two brothers, Vernon Hackett of Oklahoma City; and Herman Hackett of Enid; sixteen grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren and one great great grandson; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2013, at the First Baptist Church in Wanette.
Burial will follow at the Wanette Cemetery.
