Roger H. Smith, 78, of Tecumseh, Oklahoma passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at his home.
He was born to Hugh Franklin Smith, Jr. and Martha Elizabeth (Moody) Smith on August 5, 1944 in Okemah, Oklahoma.
Roger was raised in Moore and attended Moore Public Schools. He graduated with the class of 1962 from Moore High School. Roger lived in Shawnee for many years until moving to Tecumseh 29 years ago where he has since lived.
He married Mary Sylvia Brown on January 21, 1973 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on September 27, 2010.
Roger proudly served his country in the Army National Guard during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged.
He worked in maintenance at Exxon-Mobil for many years until his retirement. Roger also served as a police officer in Norman, worked as a carpenter and handyman, and volunteered his time working for his friend at the boat shop.
Roger was an avid bass fisherman and competed in several fishing tournaments. He loved OU Sooner Football and enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Sylvia Smith; parents, Hugh and Martha Smith, Jr.; brother, Gary Smith; and sister, Reba Joyce Smith.
Those left to cherish his memory are his son and daughter-in-law, Richard Dwayne Dobbins and wife Debbie of Tecumseh; daughters, Cindy Michelle Anderson of Tecumseh and Misty Dawn Smith of Tecumseh; grandchildren, Gavin Dobbins and wife Kaylee, Skylar and Savannah McKeown; great-grandchildren, Damon Dobbins and Emery Dobbins; numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
Visitation will be 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 27, 2022 and continue through service time. Service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 28, 2022 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Miles Knutson, Valir Hospice officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
