Halvin C. "Dick" Motley, 95, of Tecumseh, Oklahoma passed away Thursday, August 15, 2019 in Edmond, Oklahoma.
He was born January 15, 1924 in Macomb, Oklahoma to James Leonard and Maggie Lee (Minyard) Motley.
Dick was raised in the Macomb area, and attended Macomb Public Schools.
He proudly served his country for 4 years in the U.S. Army during WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged on January 24, 1947.
On December 23, 1950, he married the love of his life, Anna Lee "Annie" James.
She preceded him in death on January 18, 2018.
Dick worked at Tinker Air Force Base as a Radar Tech, later retiring after 25 years of service.
He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Tecumseh and a lifetime member of DAV, VFW and American Legion. He loved golfing, motorcycles, trucks, carpentry and spending time at the Lester Motley Farm.?? He had quite the green thumb, often challenging others to grow a larger tomato or sunflower than him. He never met a stranger and could make anyone laugh. Although he had no children of his own, he formed a special bond with a girl he baby sat from birth, Krystina. He was such a nurturing grandpa that she often call him mommy so he taught her to say "Poppy", and the name stuck. He was the best Poppy anyone could wish for.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Anna Lee ???Annie??? Motley; his parents, James and Maggie Motley; 7 brothers, Bill, Virgil, Delbert, Howard, Cecil, Lester and Elmer; and 1 sister, Ruba Mae Motley.
Those left to cherish his memory are his special adopted family, Sherry and Robert Cadenhead of Edmond, OK, and Krystina Cadenhead and husband Nathan Pitcovich of Edmond, OK; 2 sisters-in-law, Mildred Motley of Kingfisher, OK and Roberta Motley of Tecumseh, OK; and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 19, 2019 before the service.?? Service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 19, 2019 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Tony Peak, Tecumseh First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
