Terry Dean Matlock

Terry Dean Matlock, 76, left this life peacefully on June 21, 2021 in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

He was born on February 19, 1945 at his home in Ada, Oklahoma to Roy and Mittie (Hutchings) Matlock.

Terry graduated from Byng High School in Byng, Oklahoma in 1963. After high school he joined the US Air Force in hopes to see the world. However, he spent the four years of his enlistment at Sherman Air Force Base in Clinton, Oklahoma.

He married the love of his life, Rhetta Kaye in 1978. They spent almost 39 amazing years together building a remarkable life with their family, until her death in 2017.

After military service, Terry served as a Supervisor in the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) Branch at Tinker Air Force Base at the Arts and Crafts Center/Auto Hobby Shop to include Outdoor Recreation. In 1981 he and Rhetta accepted civil service positions with The Department of Defense at Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany. Upon his return to Tinker Air Force Base in 1985 he served as a Management Analyst, working directly for the Air Base Wing Commander. He retired in 2000.

Terry loved the outdoors, was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he was a die-hard Sooners fan. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be intensely missed by his entire family, and his fur baby, Gizmo.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; 2 sisters, Mary Ann Low and Carmaletta Matlock; and 2 brothers, Leroy Matlock and Daniel Matlock.

Terry is survived by 2 sons, Tony and Shirley Henderson of Tecumseh, Jimmy Don and Faith Westervelt of Harrah; 2 daughters, Kaye Lyn and Steve DeSomer of Harrah and Tara DeAn and Kyle Goodin of Shawnee; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 24, 2021. Service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 25, 2021 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ray Sikes officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
