Ronald H. "Ron" Garrett passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2021 in Shawnee at the age of 77.
Ron was born September 23, 1943 at Cogar, Oklahoma, the son of Claude C. Garrett and Neva (Armstrong) Garrett.
He married Kathleen "Kathy" Hunt on June 6, 1964 at the Tecumseh First Assembly of God.
Ron graduated from State Barber College of Oklahoma City in 1962. Upon graduating he was immediately employed at the barber shops on Tinker Air Force Base, starting at the BX, and quickly was moved to the Officer’s Club Shop. He started working in Shawnee in 1970 at a shop already named Ron’s Barber Shop. He later bought the shop in 1973. He retired September 1, 2007, selling the shop that still has the same name.
He was a member of the Tecumseh First Assembly of God, where he played bass guitar and sang for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Adrain Garrett, Marland Garrett, Bucky Garrett and Dale Garrett; sisters, Geneva Kuhlman, Elaine Marsh, Loretta Miller and Paula Garrett; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Estel and Ruby Hunt.
Survivors are his wife, Kathy Garrett of the home; his son, Daniel McLaughlin and wife Taylor and son, Aiden of Thornton, Colorado; one sister, Nola Stark of Hinton; and three sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Dollie Garrett of Oklahoma City, Peggy Garrett of Tuttle and Oleta Elliott and her husband, Tom Elliott of Shawnee; and numerous nieces and nephews; and many loving friends and extended family.
Visitation will be 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m., Friday, April 23, 2021 and continue through service time. Service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Tecumseh First Assembly of God with Pastor Don Jonker and Pastor Matt Rodgers officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
