Marlan Wade Dinwiddie


February 1, 1925 ~ July 12, 2024

Marlan Wade Dinwiddie, 82, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2024 at the Heritage Skilled Nursing Home in Tecumseh, OK.

He was born to Thomas Wade and Josephine Willis Dinwiddie on August 21, 1941 in Maylene, Shelby County, AL.

He graduated from Thompson High School Alabaster, Shelby County, AL in 1959 as class president.

Marlan joined the Airforce on June 5, 1960 as a Staff Sergeant in air traffic control and was honorably discharged one day shy of 8 years. During his service, Marlan was stationed in Spain, Michigan and Oklahoma City. He spent his remaining career working as a civilian Air Traffic Control Stations Operator in Base Operations at Tinker Air Force Base. He retired on March 30, 1993.

Marlan married " the love of his life, " Opal Sledge Ledbetter, on August 14, 1979 in Duncan, OK.

Marlan enjoyed traveling the US with his wife and loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends who were like family. He enjoyed watching sports, specifically Alabama and OU football.

Marlan is survived by sister Elaine Moore of Columbiana, AL; his brother Robert Carolton Dinwiddie and wife Fritha of Stone Mountain, GA; his sons Rick Dinwiddie and wife, Wendy, of Burleson, TX; and Jeff Dinwiddie of Shawnee, OK; stepdaughter, Kathy Ethridge and husband, Jim, of Whitesboro, TX; stepson, Randel Ledbetter, of Shawnee; grandchildren, Jordan Dinwiddie, of Shawnee, OK; Hali, Zoe, Colby and Lily Dinwiddie, of Burleson, TX; Derek Ethridge and wife, Kendra, of Whitesboro, TX; Tori Pfeiffer and husband Levi of Edmond, OK; and great-grandchildren Paytyn and Preston Ethridge of Whitesboro, TX; and Kingston Pfeiffer of Edmond, OK. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Marlan is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Thomas Sewell Dinwiddie, brother-in-law William Moore and many friends whom he considered family.

The family will receive visitors at Walker Funeral Home, 201 E 45th St, Shawnee, OK on Tuesday, July 16th from 5:00 – 7:00 PM.

Graveside Services will be held at the Tecumseh Cemetery, 18800 S Gordon Cooper Dr, Shawnee, OK on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at 10:00AM.
