Francis Raymond “Ray” Bowen, age 89, of Tecumseh, OK passed away Saturday, July 10, 2021 at home.
He was born September 28, 1931 in Harmony, Arkansas to Herbert Raymond and Hester Ann (Buchannan) Bowen.
Ray was raised in Arkansas, moved to Tecumseh in the early 1950’s, and has lived in Tecumseh since.
Ray married Ruby Nell Shelton on March 24, 1951 in Webb City, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on May 20, 1985. He later married Mary Luanne Swegles on September 28, 1985 in Shawnee, Oklahoma and she preceded him in death on May 7, 2021.
He attended Primitive Baptist Church in Tuttle.
Ray was an automotive mechanic from a youth until age 57 some 30 plus years as a mechanic. He worked at Johnco Aircraft, but worked mostly for himself and at Bales Auto Salvage in Shawnee.
Ray was a tinker and enjoyed building things and tinkering around. He made knives, guns and enjoyed making rings from used parts for his family. Ray loved his kids and grandkids.
He was preceded in death by both of his wives, Ruby Nell Bowen and Mary Bowen; sons, James Bowen and Terry Bowen; daughter, Donna Ramsey; his parents, Herbert and Hester Bowen; great granddaughter, Alexis Morris; brother, Gordon Bowen and wife Weetha; sister, Dehlila Sory; and son in law, Roger Ash.
Those left to cherish his memory are his; daughters, Darla Ash of the home, Pearl Tuell and Gary of Euless, TX, Diana Buttram and Larry of Tecumseh, and Lisa Bowen of Shawnee; sons, Darold Madden and K.J. of Konawa and Randy Bowen and Lisa of Shawnee; 19 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 3 great great-grandchildren; brother, Harold Don Bowen and wife Jan of Wesley, AR; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at Cooper Funeral Home. Graveside Service will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at Tecumseh Cemetery with Reverend Mack Peercy, Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Tecumseh, OK officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
