The funeral for Alma Delores "Dee" Simmons, 64, of Enid, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2009, at Central Assembly of God Church. The Rev. Kevin Ward will officiate. A graveside service will be 3 p.m. in Resthaven Memorial Cemetery, Shawnee. Arrangments are by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home.
She was born Oct. 10, 1944, in Tulare, Calif., to Arvel Dean and Vera Margerette Pickett Carmichael and died Thursday, March 19, 2009, in Enid. She attended cosmetology school in Colorado Springs, Colo., and nursing school in Tonkawa.
She was awarded a Certificate of Commendation Aug. 22, 1986, for an act of heroism by saving a human life.
She married Cecil W. Simmons May 20, 1988, in Woodland Park, Colo. They made their home in Enid. She and her husband drove truck for a year. She attended Central Assembly of God Church where she participated in the Widows Group. She received a Certificate of Achievement from Southeast Regional Occupational Program for Travel and Tourism in January 1993.
Surviving are three daughters, Karolyn Derby, Judy McDowell and Shawna Derby, all of Enid; her mother, Vera Carmichael of Seminole; two brothers, Victor Carmichael of Clifton, Colo., and Gene Carmichael of Shawnee; two sisters, Virginia Brice of Seminole and Avis Barton of El Jebel, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil, and one sister.
