Constance 'Colleen' Read, 97, of Wichita, KS, passed away Sunday, November 5, 2017 surrounded by her family. She was born on January 1, 1920, in Vivian, LA, to Kate and Ulysses Smith.
Colleen lived in Mississippi, Texas, Oklahoma and Arizona before settling down in Kansas in 2000. She worked most of her life as a telephone operator and was a member of the Pioneers. Colleen married the love of her life P.K. Read on March 11, 1953 and had two children, Trisha Story and Paul Read. Colleen is preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Charlie Smith and his wife Velma; sisters, Zenobia Smith, Elizabeth Campbell and her husband Jr., Mary Posey and her husband Norris, Velma Pecht and her husband CJ; son-in-law Donald Boyce; and niece Robin Smith.
Colleen is survived by her children, Trisha Story and Paul and his wife Renee Read; brothers, Max Smith and his wife Pat, Paul Smith and his wife Myrrah; grandchildren, Patty Read, Jennifer and Christian Bond, Shawnna and Jason Abel, Christopher Rounds; great grandchildren, AJ and CJ Bond, Brayden and Brooklyn Abel, Percephanie and Phreyja Rounds; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at 1:00pm-8:00 pm, Friday, November 10, 2017. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Resthaven Funeral Home followed with burial at Resthaven Memorial Park. Donations can be made to Gideon's International, Wounded Warriors or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
