Dorothy Rawls Lantz of Shawnee, Oklahoma passed away on January 17, 2021 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Shawnee.
She was a resident of the Regency at the time of her death. She was born, to Howard and Gracie (Waller) Roberts on July 31, 1932 near Byars, Oklahoma, the eldest of nine girls. She attended Byars Public Schools.
In 1949, Dorothy met Burl Rawls while getting gas in Harjo, Oklahoma. They married on December 22, 1951 and remained married until his death in 1983. In 1995, she met and married Dennis Lantz. He preceded her in death in 2002.
Dorothy was employed at several businesses in Shawnee including Sylvania, JC Penney, Fabrific, and Patterson Roofing. Dorothy retired in 2008 after 22 years of service at Mission Hill/Unity South. She was also an accomplished seamstress and made custom clothes for many area residents. She was a former member of the Moose Lodge and Lakeshore Social Club. Dorothy enjoyed weekends at Lake Eufaula and was a big fan of the Sooners, Thunder and NASCAR.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and both husbands; sister, May Barnes and husband Carl, Lena Wagley and husband Charlie, Louise Morgan and husband Doyle, and brother-in-law, Jimmy Clark.
She is survived by her son, Mike Rawls and his wife Kim of Tecumseh; grandchildren, Josh and Wife Jill Rawls of the Village, Nichole Rawls of Shawnee, Zac and wife Amanda Rawls of Shawnee; She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Elle and Emma Rawls of the Village and Ellison Rawls of Shawnee; Dorothy is also survived by five sisters, Pat Lowry and husband Albert of Sayre, Wilma Clark of Norman, Stella and husband Bill Brueklander of Chickasha, Sharon and husband Lanny Logan of Sulphur and Rita and husband Donald Enox of Sulphur; and many loving friends and extended family.
Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, January 21, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 22, 2021 and from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Cooper Funeral Home. Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Resthaven Memorial Park in Shawnee with Reverend Larry Sparks officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
