HAROLD CLYDE “PAPA” LIDDELL

Harold was born November 12, 1924 in Marlow, Oklahoma. He and his 3 brothers and 2 sisters grew up in Shawnee, OK during the depression years. After graduating from Shawnee High School in 1943 he joined the Marine Corp and fought bravely in World War II in the Pacific on Guadalcanal. After the war, he returned to play football at Tulsa University and marry the love of his life Jean Marie Boyd from Shawnee, OK. After becoming the director of the YMCA, they both worked with youth, forming “Teen Town” a place for underprivileged kids. He was also the assistant football coach at Shawnee High School.

The family moved to Illinois where they briefly lived and worked until the birth of their fifth child Mickey; at that time they moved their family of 7 back to Norman, OK.

Harold entered the construction business and became one of the largest home builders in the state. He impacted the growth of Norman by building single family homes, apartments, office buildings, the Trails Golf Course, United Bank, Rivermont Retirement Village and many commercial projects.

Although he was a successful businessman, his greatest priority was his family. He desired to attend all his children’s, grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s sporting events and activities. They could always count on his feedback on how well they had done and would challenge them to move to the next level.
