CHARLES CALVIN COPELAND

9 Jan 1940 - 13 Nov 2017

Charles Calvin Copeland, 77, lifelong resident of Shawnee, passed away Monday, Nov. 13, 2017, at his home.

He was born Jan. 9, 1940, to William "Bill" Owen and Mable (Puckett) Copeland in Shawnee.

Charles was raised in Shawnee and attended Shawnee Public Schools.

He married Peggy Pringle in July 1961, and she preceded him in death. He later married Romona Burden on May 8, 1980, in Eufaula.

Charles proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from Jan. 10, 1960, to Dec. 29, 1965, when he was honorably discharged.

Charles worked at O.G. & E. for 28 years as a mechanic. He enjoyed motorcycles, riding his tractor and spending time working in his shop with his friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William "Bill" and Mable Copeland; his sister, Lila Barnes; and his brother, Jack Copeland.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Romona Copeland of the home; three daughters and three sons-in-law, Pam and James Chamberlain of Tecumseh, Debra and Steve Motley of Shawnee, and Robin and Stephen Babb of Shawnee; two stepsons, Terrell and Patti Romberg of Cordell, and Larry Romberg of Shawnee; 14 grandchildren, Zac Holley, Jason and Cassie Romberg, Kiera and Steve Coffin, Jessica and Jason Holland, Taron and Ryan Sharp, Kasie Romberg, Garrett Babb, Gabrielle and Tyler Sharp and Brooklyn Motley; nine great-grandchildren, Casen and Kylee Holley, Tavi and Ellie Holland, Weston Romberg, Emmitt and Reece Coffin and Trinity and Keaton Sharp; brother, Jim Copeland; nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m, Thursday, Nov. 16, and continue through service time. Family gathering to greet friends and family will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 16, at Cooper Funeral Home.

Service will be 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 17, at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Terrell Romberg, First Baptist Church in Cordell, officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Shawnee under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
