Shirley Ann Carithers Bryant, 80, of Shawnee, passed away on August 11, 2018.
Shirley was born October 6, 1937 in Greenwood, MS to David and Lucille Carithers. Shirley and her mother moved to Shawnee around 1950 where Shirley met the love of her life, Shawnee native Bob Bryant.
Shirley and Bob married in 1954 and went about the business of running Bryant’s Dairy which had been established by Bob’s parents in the 1930’s. Bob and Shirley worked hard to maintain and modernize the dairy providing fresh milk to local customers and commercial dairies alike while raising three children, Steve, Patricea “Teresa”, and Cindy “Dayna”.
After they sold the dairy in 1974, they continued to live off the land through a variety of business endeavors and began spending summers with the family traveling about the country. On these trips, Shirley always enjoyed getting off the beaten path hunting for historical artifacts and other relics. She was quite a collector of rocks, fossils, and shells and enjoyed sharing these collections with friends and family.
Eventually, Bob and Shirley began traveling full time in their Motor Coach and covered most of the US, Canada, and Mexico. Shirley returned to Shawnee in 2013 after Bob passed away.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather Fred Nutt, and her beloved husband, Bobby Lee Bryant. She is survived by her children, Steve (Ruth) Bryant of Bakersfield, CA, Teresa (Brett) Askin of Shawnee, and Dayna (Karen Churchill) Bryant of Grapevine, TX. She has three grandchildren Nick (Christine) Bryant of Bakersfield, CA, Brian (Tina) Askin of College Station, TX, and Kevin Askin of Shawnee, OK. She has two great granddaughters, Olivia and Tatum Bryant of Bakersfield, CA.
Services will be held Saturday, August 18th at 3:00 pm at Resthaven Funeral Home and Cemetery in Shawnee, OK. Viewing will be from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, August 17th with family visitation from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
