ROBERT "BOBBY" BROWN CAMERON, JR.

May 24, 1953 - April 29, 2018

Robert (Bobby) Brown Cameron, Jr., 64, of Tecumseh, OK, passed from this life Sunday, April 29, 2018, in Oklahoma City.

He was born May 24, 1953 to Robert and Beatrice Cameron in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Robert was raised in Ada, Oklahoma and graduated from Vanoss High School. He earned his Bachelor’s degree at U.C.O. He moved to Norman in 1984, and in 1990 he moved to the Little Axe area until moving to Tecumseh six years ago. For the last six years he has lived across the road from three of his grandsons, who he loved having over to pester him every day by eating all of his Little Debbies while talking him into playing chess or watching old cowboy movies.

He married Barbara Horton in 1972 in Ada, Oklahoma.

Robert proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War working on planes. He was stationed in Thailand and Altus, Oklahoma, before reenlisting for an extra year in order to take his wife and baby with him to the island of Guam for two years. He was honorably discharged.

He retired from the City of Moore after working 19 years as a Building Inspector. While working there he brought the AFSCME to Moore, Oklahoma, and proudly served its members as the Chapter Chair.

Robert had a great love for horses, particularly racehorses. He saw them as poetry in motion, and owned more than 50 during his lifetime. Robert was a horse breeder and trainer, and during his younger days he was a horse jockey. He bred, raised, and trained Egyptian Eyes, the 2002 Oklahoma Turf Mare of the Year. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren; they were the focal point of his life, and he radiated pride and joy when around them.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Cameron; mother, Beatrice Quick; sister, June Poindexter; and brother, Rodney Cameron.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 45 years, Barbara Cameron of the home; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Robert Brent and Janie Cameron of Tecumseh, OK and Warren Brown Cameron and Ashley Winn of Mustang, OK; five grandchildren, Robert Blake Cameron, Justin Alan Cameron, Carson Garrett Cameron, Madisson Rylee Cameron and Aidan Warren Cameron; one great grandson, Robert Benjamin Cameron who will be born in June; sister, Debbie Welty of Texas; brother, Darryl Jaques of Arizona; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family and friends.

Visitation will be from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 3, 2018. Service will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 4, 2018 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Clint Dawkins, Sharon Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie View Cemetery in Macomb under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
