GUY WAKOLEE
1912 - 2001


Guy Wakolee died Tuesday at an Ardmore hospital. The Shawnee resident was 89.
He was born June 21, 1912, north of Shawnee, the son of Hugh and Mabel Grayeyes Wakolee.
He attended Chilocoh schools and business school in Oklahoma City in 1960.
He earned a degree in religious philosophy from Cooks Seminary in Phoenix, Arizona.
Wakolee was a minister who served as secretary for the Sac and Fox Tribe in 1959. He helped put the Sac and Fox language in print.
He was also a World War II veteran who earned three Purple Hearts, the Silver Star and the Distinguished Service Cross.
He was a Methodist and a member of the Fox Warrior Clan. He worked with the Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference of the Methodist Church.
Wakolee lived north of Shawnee most of his life.
Preceding him in death were his parents, four brothers and one sister.
He is survived by a number of nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Wayne Wilson will officiate with burial be at Wakolee Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
