David M. Turman, 95, Tecumseh, died August 21 in Arlington, Texas.
He was born January 24, 1907, in Clay County, Alabama to Baltimore and Leela Kennedy Turman.
He attended school in Brooksville and during his military service, attended farm management school.
In 1946, he married Lula Watson. She preceded him in death in 1979.
On August 4, 1980, he married Roberta L. Caramore. She preceded him in death August 4, 1997.
He was a self-employed farmer for more than 20 years, prior to serving in the army. After the service, he worked and retired from Tinker Air Force Base.
He served with the U. S. Army in the Battery C 593rd Field Artillery battalion as a switchboard operator in the Northern Solomons and New Guinea during World War II. He also served as a marksman carbine and received the World War II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, AP Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbons and two Bronze Service Stars.
He was a member of the Brooksville Church of God in Christ.
He served as a city council member of the Brooksville Volunteer Fire Department since the 1980s. He continued to farm and garden after his retirement.
Preceding him in death were his wife, parents, six brothers and four sisters.
Surviving are sister Vestula Johnson of Phoenix, Arizona, stepdaughter Harrice Davis of Oklahoma, stepson Stanley Gray of Seattle, Washington, great-niece and caretaker, Patricia and Phillip Jones of Grand Prairie, Texas, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Nelson Chapel in Shawnee with the Rev. H. M. Burnette, the Rev. R. L. Harris and the Rev. Lee Oliver officiating.
Burial will follow at Brooksville Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home, Tecumseh.
