1900 - 1997
Anna M. Najvar Sykora, 97, Shawnee, died Tuesday at a local nursing home.She was born on July 2, 1900, in Hallettsville, Texas, to Joseph M. and Anna Konecny Najvar.She moved to Prague in 1907 and attended Prague schools.She married Valentine Sykora on November 20, 1920, and moved to Shawnee in 1944.Mrs. Sykora, who was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, was also active in the St. Benedict Altar Society.She is survived by four daughters and one son-in-law, Mary Ann Johnson, Margaret Yates, Helen Scott, and Jodi and Jack Rogers, all of Shawnee; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Mary Sykora, Kemp, Texas; and Gary and Pat Sykora, Lake Jackson, Texas; one daughter-in-law, Margaret Sykora, Midwest City; eighteen grandchildren; twenty six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband, on November 20, 1967; one son, Robert Sykora; and two grandchildren.A vigil and rosary will be 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Benedict Catholic Church, with the Rev. Charles Massoth, O.S.B. as celebrant.Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
