WARREN PRICE SMITH JR.
1928 - 1997
Shawnee resident Warren Price Smith Jr. died Sunday at his residence at the age of 69.He was born May 1, 1928, in Eastland, Texas, to W. Price and Lila Winters Smith.He attended Shawnee High School and the University of Oklahoma.He married Carolyn Adams on September 17, 1948, in Gainesville, Texas.He worked in the oil field all his life. He started working for his dad when he was 15. He retired from Caltex Petroleum {Texaco} after thirty years.He was the assistant drilling manager for Rocky Mt. District for Texaco in Casper, Wyoming from 1976 to 1983. He worked in Indonesia from 1983 to 1989, and he returned to Shawnee on December 3, 1994. He worked in Venezuela from 1995 to 1996.Mr. Smith was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Elks Lodge.Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Smith, of the home; two daughters, Cathy Moore of Shawnee; and Melanie Hancock of Salina, Kansas; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Richard and Mary Smith of Monahans, Texas; and Steven A. Smith of Shawnee; three granddaughters and two grandsons; two sisters, Clara Smith of Tulsa; and Penny Smith of Shawnee; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins; mother-in-law, Dorothy Atkins of Gravois Mills, Missouri; and brother-in-law, Tom Adams of Shawnee.He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Bill Smith and his sister, Sherri Bradshaw.Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or the Hospice of Shawnee Regional Hospital.Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with Dr. Max Shumake officiating.Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.
