JAMES ELLIOTT SKEENE
1924 - 2003


Shawnee resident James Elliott Skeene, 79, died at a local hospital October 2.
He was born August 18, 1924, in Harjo to Joseph and Lillie Skeene.
He attended Shawnee school and as a teenager served in the C.C.C.S.
During World War II, he served in the South Pacific with the U.S. Army. During the Korean War, he served in Alaska.
He was married to Catherine L. Brown, July 10, 1946, in Maud.
He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
He retired from Shawnee Milling Company after 36 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Hazel Austin and Helen Bottoms, and a brother, Joe D. Skeene.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years; one daughter and son-in-law, Jo Lanette and Clifton W. Sikes of Earlsboro; one son, Michael James Skeene of Guthrie; a granddaughter and her husband, Jana and Clayton Grubbs of Tecumseh; one great-grandaughter and a sister, Wanda Haley of Shawnee.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Larry Sparks officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery.
