1917 - 2007
Shawnee resident Billie M. Rose Shunk, 90, passed away Saturday, December 22, 2007 in Shawnee.She was born August 18, 1917, in Tecumseh to Mack C. and Melvina Franks Rose.She was a lifelong resident of Pottawatomie County, having lived in Tecumseh, Shawnee and Bethel Acres. She was a graduate of Tecumseh High School.She served with the U. S. Army in the Women's Army Corps and was a Master Sergeant.On October 23, 1945, she married Frank Shunk in Shawnee. Mr. Shunk preceded her in death on April 22, 1988.Along with her husband, they farmed and had a dairy in Bethel Acres. She began working at Tinker Air Force Base in 1966 and retired in 1984.She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.Her grandchildren were the focal point in her life. She also enjoying gardening, working outside, traveling, cooking, feeding her birds and watching church on the TV.She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, J. C. Rose.Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Kaye Stillwell of Shawnee and Barbara and Denny Ollis of Shawnee; one son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Myrtle Shunk; six grandchildren, Michelle and Craig Mincher of Shawnee, Amy Stillwell of Shawnee, Don and Cristina Shunk of Maryland, David and Jamie Shunk of Tulsa, Nick and Libby Atyia of Blanchard, Derek and Amber Atyia of Seminole; great grandchildren, Destiny Mincher of Shawnee, Dania Mincher of Shawnee, Blaise Shunk of Maryland, Michaela Shunk of Maryland, Gabe Atyia of Blanchard and Easton Atyia of Blanchard.Service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Chris Talley officiating.Burial will be at Hopewell Cemetery, Bethel.Published December 25, 2007.
