NORMA JOYCE RUSSELL
1923 - 2012
Norma Joyce Held Russell, age 89, was born April 9, 1923 in McLoud, Oklahoma to Martin A. and Mary L. Reece Held.
Joyce grew up in McLoud and graduated from high school there in 1940.
In 1941 she married Carl M. Rice and moved to Harrah, Oklahoma. After his passing in 1950, she married Marion A. Russell in 1953. They lived in Harrah until 1962. During this time she worked as a grocery store clerk, bank teller and later a secretary for Harrah Schools.
In 1962 they moved to Burlington, Iowa. In 1973 they returned to McLoud where Joyce enjoyed being a homemaker and being involved with the McLoud Alumni Association. For the last two and a half years she has resided in Guthrie, Oklahoma at Ash Street Place and Golden Age Nursing Home.
Joyce loved people. During her lifetime she had many friends and acquaintances.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, two brothers, one sister and many friends.
She is survived by her only son, Boyd D. Rice and wife Linda of Guthrie; grandson, Brad Rice and Lois Edwards of Guthrie; granddaughter, Amy Crossno and husband Jerry of Dallas, Texas; and great-grandchildren, Nicholas Rice of Edmond, Oklahoma and Cherokee Rice of Guthrie.
Joyce was a longtime member of McLoud First United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to McLoud First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 997, McLoud, OK 74851.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 11, 2012 at Dale Cemetery in McLoud. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.
Visitation will be Sunday, 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
