1913 - 2015
Jimmy Ray, age 101 of Shawnee, passed away with his family by his side on Saturday, May 23, 2015.He was born on October 19, 1913, in Shawnee to Jim and Eva Ray.Jimmy graduated from Shawnee High School in 1932. In 1936, he began his career in the lumber business, working for Springer Lumber and Bison Lumber in Shawnee.On May 22, 1937, he married Juanitta Mash. Jimmy and Juanitta moved to Cleveland, Oklahoma, where he managed Benson Lumber Yard until his retirement in 1975. After retiring, Jimmy and Juanitta moved to Durant.Juanitta passed away in 1998. After Juanitta’s death, Jimmy married Lola Moran. Upon Lola’s death in 2007, Jimmy moved back to Shawnee to be closer to his son, Jerry.He loved his family, his church, working in his garden, and sharing his produce with his fellow seniors. Jimmy also enjoyed dancing, attending dances three to four times each week.Jimmy was a member of the Shawnee Presbyterian Church and the Masonic Lodge.He was preceded in death by his first wife, Juanitta, second wife, Lola, his parents, and mother-in-law, Stella Mash.Jimmy is survived by his children, Jerry {Vivian} Ray of Shawnee; Jane {Hugh} Crume of Coldsprings, Texas; two granddaughters, Felicia {Russell} Spurlock of Texas; Tina {Lonnie} Wellman of Shawnee; two great-grandsons, Tyler {Laura} Wellman of Shawnee; and Derek {Leslie} Wellman of McLoud; four great-granddaughters, Kristin Guzman; Danielle Spurlock; Candice Spurlock of Texas; and Danielle Wellman of Shawnee; six great-great-grandchildren, Lexie, Greyson, Sadie Wellman of McLoud; Silas Wellman of Shawnee; and Kaylie and Ashlyn Guzman of Texas.In addition, Jimmy is survived by his step-sons, Pat Moran of Texas and Gary Moran of Arizona; along with his special friend and dance partner, Osyth Downing of Shawnee.Visitation will begin at noon, Wednesday, May 27, at Resthaven Funeral Home.Graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. that same day at Resthaven Memorial Park with Amy Bussey officiating.
