MILO WILLIAM OLIVA
1926 - 2009


Shawnee resident Milo William Oliva died Saturday, May 30, 2009, in Oklahoma City at the age of 82.
He was born August 21, 1926 in Tobias, Nebraska, the youngest of eleven born to Vaclav and Anna Beranek Oliva.
Milo’s father helped construct Tobias High School where he lettered four years in sports and graduated in May 1944.
On July 3, 1947 he married Gloria Lee Rogers in Oklahoma City.
Milo served 34 years in the Civil Service at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma and Robbins Air Force Base in Warner Robbins, Georgia.
He was a charter member of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, Midwest City.
After retirement, he was a 30-year active member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church serving on the vestry and singing in the choir for many years. Milo was a long time volunteer with Operation Christmas in Shawnee.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, crossword puzzles, airplanes and family activities.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 62 years, Gloria of the home; daughter, Jan Sanders and the late Dr. Ronald Sanders of Seminole; daughter and son-in-law, Diana and John McCarthy of Midwest City; and son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and JudyLee Oliva of Choctaw. Grandchildren include Jaesen Sanders of Seminole; Major Christopher McCarthy and wife Candice of Niceville, Florida; Elizabeth McCarthy of Midwest City; and Meredith and Shane Hawk of Midwest City. Great-grandchildren include Annalie and Olivia McCarthy of Niceville, Florida; Malerie and Titus Hawk of Midwest City; and other survivors including sisters, Marie Havel of Milligan, Nebraska; and Dorothy Erwin, Morristown, Tennessee; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church with the Rev. Clark Shackelford officating.
Burial will be at Emmanuel Episcopal Church Columbarium.
Cremation was handled by Walker Funeral Service of Shawnee.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bruce Oliva, John McCarthy, Christopher McCarthy, Jaesen Sanders, Bill Carpenter and Philip Young.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the “STAINED GLASS WINDOWS” fund at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 1905, Shawnee, Oklahoma. 74802-1905.
