C. O. LANE
1912 - 1997
Shawnee resident C. O. "Kid" Lane died Tuesday, September 2 at a local nursing home. He was 85.Mr. Lane was born February 23, 1912, in Glencoe, to Ben and Carrie Ash Lane.He attended South Rock Creek and graduated from Shawnee High School.He married Naomi Woods on June 29, 1932, in Shawnee.He started working with Noble Drilling Company Sinclair Pipeline in the 1930s and later worked with Douglas Aircraft. From 1945 to 1955 he owned and operated Lane and Son, DX Service Station.He later worked at Sears and Wards in the appliance departments, retiring from Wards in 1974.He started boxing in the ring at age 15 as a welterweight, and later moved to middleweight. For three years, he boxed here and in surrounding towns.Mr. Lane was a member of the First Christian Church of Shawnee and was a member of the Elks Lodge.Survivors include his wife, Naomi Woods Lane of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Howard and Pat Lane of Dallas, Texas; one daughter and son-in-law, Mona and Jim Haig of Shawnee; four granddaughters, Debby Lane-Huelsenberg of Frankfurt, Germany; Kathy Lane Fulmer of Murphy, Texas; Laura Lane Brewer of Denton, Texas; and Sue Gillham of Pensacola, Florida; one stepgrandson, Patrick Haig; two great-granddaughters, Alyssa Lane-Huelsenberg and Katelyn Lane-Huelsenberg, both of Frankfurt, Germany; one sister, Marie Torigian of Fresno, California; and several nieces, nephews and cousins around Shawnee, Newkirk, Stillwater; and in Oregon and California.Services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel with the Rev J. C. Farrand officiating.Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.Published September 4, 1997.
