REV. AUGUSTINE HORN
1914 - 2003


SHAWNEE — The Rev. Augustine Horn, a monk of St . Gregory's Abbey, died Thursday after a brief illness. He was 89.
He was born Sylvester Joseph Horn on November 28, 1914, in Cresco, Iowa, to Andrew and Anna Moravetz Horn.
In 1938, he entered the novitiate of St . Gregory's Abbey, making his final profession as a Benedictine monk July 11, 1942. He was ordained as a priest March 17, 1945.
Rev. Horn received a bachelor's degree in philosophy in 1941 from St . John's University, Collegeville, Minnesota, and a master's degree in Latin from the University of Oklahoma in 1952.
He began teaching foreign languages and medical technology at St . Gregory's High School and College in 1943, retiring in 1992.
Rev. Horn was well known for guiding tours of the stained glass in the abbey church and dining room.
Vigils will be 7:00 p.m. today in St . Gregory's Abbey Church.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Abbey Church.
Burial will follow in the St . Gregory's Abbey Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St . Gregory's Abbey or St. Gregory's University, 1900 W. MacArthur, Shawnee, Oklahoma 74804.
