1933 - 2008
Shawnee resident John Wayne Goodson, 75, passed away, Friday, October 17, 2008, in Shawnee.He was the oldest of three children born to Loyd and Eva Goodson on July 19, 1933, in Shawnee.He graduated from Shawnee High School in 1952.He met and married Nina Baxter in 1953. He married Jean Marie Carson in 1958 and Nancy Pool Hurd in 1983.John served in the U.S. Army 11th Airborne Division and was honorably discharged in 1956.In 1970, John founded Wayne Manufacturing, sucessfully designing and manufacturing various products for the natural gas distribution industry. John’s industry associates were such an integral part of his life that he continued to work in a sales and marketing capacity for Rainmaker Sales until a few days before his untimely death.He was an active member of the First Baptist Church.He lived all of his life in Shawnee and his hobbies included fishing, hunting, antiques and having the best yard on the block.He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy.Survivors include his children, John “J. C.” and Linda Goodson of Earlsboro; Leslie Yered of Gardnerville, Nevada; Jennifer and Tony Barnett of Flower Mound, Texas; Brent and Penny Hurd of Bridgeport, Texas; Kathy and Kevin Parke of Dallas, Texas; Mike and Becca Hurd of Bridgeport, Texas; and John and Jennifer Hurd of Aiken, South Carolina; grandchildren, Josh and Lindsay Goodson, and Jake Goodson of Shawnee; Jamie and Justin Thomsen and Jenna Yered of Reno, Nevada; John Yered of Gardnerville, Nevada; Taylor and Brittany Barnett of Flower Mound, Texas; Christin and Jake Hayhurst of Brisbane, Australia; Courtney and Matt Wyman of Plano, Texas; Caleb Hurd of Stillwater; Hunter Shunatona and Brooke Shunatona of Dallas, Texas; Reagan and Connor Hurd of Bridgeport, Texas; Alex and Libby Hurd of Aiken, South Carolina; great-grandchildren, Piper, Gus and Channing Goodson of Shawnee; Lily Hayhurst of Brisbane, Australia; sisters, Donna Allert of Tulsa; Pam and husband George Wright of Tulsa; and a number of nieces and nephews and friends.Service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church with Dr. Dan Williams officiating.Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.Casket will be open at the funeral home through Monday evening and not opened at the services at the church.
