MOZELLA GILLES ROBERTS
1913 - 1998
Former Shawnee resident Mozella "Peggy" Gilles Roberts died Tuesday in a Claremore nursing home. She was 85.She was born January 24, 1913, and orphaned at age 3. She and her three brothers grew up in Buckner Baptist Orphans' Home in Dallas, Texas.At age 21, she moved to Shawnee and and worked at Van's Pig Stand. She married Harold A. Gilles in Sulphur in 1941 and they lived in Shawnee for many years. He preceded her in death in 1965.In 1969, she married H. F. "Sonny" Roberts. He preceded her in death in 1974 and she moved to Claremore, where she was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church.Also preceding her in death were her two brothers, Estman and Melvin O'Neal, and one grandchild, John Gilles.Surviving are her children and their spouses, Harold and Helen Gilles, Claremore; Joe and Jan Gilles, Tanzania; grandchildren, Kevin and Cindy Gilles, Darla and Kevin Bugg, all of Claremore; Jeff Gilles, Tanzania; three great-grandchildren, and brother and sister-in-law, George and Wanda O'Neal of Blessing, Texas.Rosary was Wednesday at Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Home of Claremore.Rite of Christian burial will be 10:00 a.m. today at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Claremore.Graveside service will be 3:00 p.m. today at Calvary Cemetery in Shawnee.Memorials may be made to the March of Dimes, 5147B S. Harvard, Tulsa Oklahoma 74135.
