ROMA JUNE EVANS
1918 - 2001
Roma June Moses Evans died Tuesday in a local hospital at the age of 82.She was born on November 7, 1918.She was a youth and adult Sunday school teacher for a church in California for more than 20 years, where she was also a choir member.Mrs. Evans and her husband taught the youth at their church in San Angelo, Texas.Upon moving to Shawnee, she taught the young married class at her church. She had served latest as teacher of the senior adult ladies Sunday school class at Fairview Baptist Church. Her service at Fairview spanned 23 years.She was a secretary at Waukesha Motors, Tulsa, and Dupont. She also was a secretary for First Baptist Church, Sapulpa, and was a personal secretary for R. Lofton Hudson of the First Baptist Church, Shawnee.She was the first female assistant branch manager for Security Pacific Bank in Fullerton, California, and she retired after 20 years of service. After her retirement, she worked as secretary for Fair Oaks Baptist Church, Fair Oaks, California, and at Fairview Baptist Church of Shawnee for 13 years.Mrs. Evans also was a member and director of Women's Missionary Union {Women on Missions}.Her husband, Estel W. Evans, preceded her in death.Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Sharon; granddaughters, Dede, Jill and Lindsay; one great-granddaughter, Gabbriella; a son-in-law, T. J.; and five sisters.A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Fairview Baptist Church.The Rev. Richard Stillwell will officiate. Her cremains will be buried at a later date.Arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.Memorials may be made to Southern Baptist International Mission Board in care of Fairview Baptist Church, Shawnee.
