1933 - 2016


John C. Elliott was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma on February 18, 1933, to George Washington and Hattie Douglas Elliott.
John grew up in Shawnee and attended and graduated from Bethel High School in 1951, after high school he started working for the Santa Fe Railroad.
He met the love of his life, Jean Parker at an Ice Cream Parlor in Cushing and was married on February 2, 1954, and to this union Pam was born. During their first year of marriage they moved 11 times for Johns work.
Prior to their meeting John lost his thumb in a railroad accident.
John enjoyed gardening with his lifelong friend, Andy Williamson of Noble, fishing, working with wood, but most of all he loved spending time with his grandsons, even sneaking out to get them pop and candy. John had a good sense of humor. Some would call him a jokester. He enjoyed playing cards, dominoes and no one could beat him.
He was baptized at the Union Hill Baptist Church in Purcell, Oklahoma.
He was number 13 of 14 children in his family; he bought his mother her first modern cook stove.
John was the last surviving child of his family.
John is survived by his daughter, Pam Elliott of Cushing, two grandchildren, John Douglas Elliott and wife Gail of Tulsa, and Steven James Elliott and wife Melissa of Minco, and six great grandchildren, Abby, Ryan, Stevie, Macey, Katie and Julie.
John is preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, Eph, Rob, Edward, Monte, Dugan and Jack and seven sisters, Mert, Mettie, Maxine, Beulah, Jane, Hattie Mae and Callie.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday April 15, 2016 at the Palmer Marler Funeral Home Chapel, Cushing.
Burial will follow in the Harrell Cemetery in Cushing, Oklahoma.
