DENVER L. CLAYTOR
1929 - 2000


Asher resident Denver L. "Dan" Claytor died Saturday at his home. He was 71.
Mr. Claytor was born January 17, 1929, to Ed and Effie Claytor in Fordwick, Virginia.
He served in the U.S. Army for 27 years during the Korean conflict and two terms in Vietnam. He retired in 1970 with a sergeant's first class ranking.
He taught ROTC at the University of Oklahoma and taught disabled adults at St. Gregory's College before retiring in 1970.
He married Dalene Cockett in 1950. They were married 27 years. He married Yvonne Tipton of Asher on September 29, 1982.
He also owned Claytor Janitorial Service.
Survivors include his wife, Yvonne Claytor of Asher; brothers and sister-in-law, Doug and Ida Claytor of Clifton Forge, Virginia, Linwood Claytor of Norfolk, Virginia and Jim Claytor of Augusta Springs, Virginia, sisters and brothers-in-law, Elsie Doyle of Stanton, Virginia, Drucilla and Win White of Charlotte, North Caroline, Edna and George Hams of Stuarts Draft, Virginia, Naomi and Bill Sprouse of Waynesboro, Virginia and Corrine Thomas of Virginia Beach, Virginia, children and their spouses, J. D. and Donna Claytor of Del City, Tracie and Rex Osborne of Longview, Washington, Mike and Lisa Claytor of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Lee and Nan Claytor of Shawnee, David and Jamie Claytor of Asher, Cynthia and Donnie Wright, Larry and Rita Alexander and Smokey and Penny Tipton; seventeen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews as well as numerous friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Effie Claytor.
Military rites will be 9:00 a.m. Wednesday at Johnson's Cemetery, Shawnee.
Memorials may be made to the VFW.
