DONALD EUGENE BOYCE
1930 - 2016


Shawnee resident, Donald "Don" Eugene Boyce, 86, died Wednesday, April 27, 2016 in Norman. He was born in Shawnee on February 25, 1930 to Roy and Clara Ward Boyce.
He attended Shawnee Public Schools. During his senior year, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and retired after 22 years of service. During his time in the Air Force, he participated in numerous different sports, including track and baseball. He was known as "Track Star" and received many awards, including Athlete of the Year, three times.
On December 31, 1948, Don went to a New Year's Eve dance and met JoAnn Long. After a dance and a promise to JoAnn to return to the dance after taking his date home, they fell in love and got married on February 19, 1949. Together they raised three sons.
After Don retired from the Air Force, he went to work for the United States Postal Service as a carrier and retired after 13 years. Don then became a Striper Guide at Lake Texoma and enjoyed playing golf.
He was a member of First Christian Church in Shawnee.
Don had a wonderful sense of humor, a smile that could light up a room and a great love for his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Donald Boyce; brothers, Burl Boyce, Dwayne Boyce and Bill Boyce and grandson, James Collins.
Those left to cherish their memories are his best friend and wife of 67 years, JoAnn Boyce; sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Terri Boyce, David and Barbara Boyce, and Trisha Story; grandchildren, Brian, Jason and Jamie, Jessie and Krystal, Malachi and Courtney, Shawnna and Jason, Macie and Dustin, Codie and Stephen, and Chris and Charlotte; seventeen great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; sister, Norma Delonias and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2016 at Resthaven Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Resthaven Funeral Home with interment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
