FRANK ANTHONY
1930 - 2002


Frank Anthony, 71, of Norman died Sunday in Norman.
He was born April 19, 1930, in Columbus, Ohio, the son of Martin and Electoria Toliver Anthony.
Anthony was a graduate of East High School, Columbus. He earned a bachelor of fine arts at the Columbus Art Institute and a bachelor of arts and master of arts at California State University. He earned a masters of education at the University of Oklahoma and had pursued a doctorate at UCLA.
He was reared in Columbus and had also lived in Los Angeles, California, and had resided in Norman since 1980. He was a professional artist and sculptor and the audio project manager for the Postal Training Center in Norman. He owned Atho Lighting Company in Los Angeles.
A veteran of the Korean conflict, he served in the U.S. Army and earned a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Norman, where he had served as an elder. He coached football in the military and on a semi-pro basis. He also coached basketball for Irving School in Norman, his church league and the Optimist league.
On September 8, 1968, he married Mary Agnes Grimes in Las Vegas, Nevada.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Martin Anthony and Dewitt Anthony.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Frank Ethan Anthony of Cincinnati; a sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Clyde Parks of Columbus; a sister, Audree Turner of Columbus; a brother, Phillip Anthony of Columbus; a sister-in-law, Flora Anthony of Columbus; an uncle, Abe Anthony of Columbus; numerous nieces and nephews; and family members in Oklahoma, Texas, Georgia and California.
A service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church in Norman with the Rev. Pam Normile, associate pastor of First Presbyterian, officiating.
Burial will be in Brooksville Cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
