Fred Eugene "Gene" Blansett, of Meeker, Oklahoma, passed away on Monday, January 24, 2022 at his home in Meeker. Gene was 80 years old. Gene was born on July 23, 1941 in Oklahoma City. He was the son of Fred Alfred and Eugenia Elizabeth (Cox) Blansett. Fred was raised in Del City and attended Del City High School, where he graduated in 1959. While in high school, Gene was a stellar athlete. He excelled as a catcher on the baseball team. While in high school, he was drafted by Major League Baseball but he was not allowed to drop high school to play. Following high school, Gene attended the University of Oklahoma for one year and completed in his education at Oklahoma State University, graduating with an associates degree in Fire Protection and Engineering. Gene worked for many years for the State of Oklahoma, working in risk management.
Gene married Charlotte on August 8, 1982 and the two moved from Del City to Meeker, where Gene lived out his dream of owning and living on the farm. He loved living on the farm and was truly happy there with Charlotte. Gene loved to fish and hunt. He enjoyed taking the kids horseback riding. Upon moving to Meeker, Gene and Charlotte joined the Garden Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where they were faithful members for many years.
Gene was known for his big heart. He loved people and being around them. He would do anything for anyone and you could always count on him. His family always came first and they were the pride of his life. He loved spending time with Charlotte, their children and grandchildren.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Marshall Yoakum.
Those left to cherish his memory are, his loving wife of nearly 40 years, Charlotte Blansett; four children, Connie Lindsey, David Blansett, Kelli Fleener and Danny Blansett and his wife, Sue; grandchildren, Kevin Hamm, Krista Hamm, Derek Fleener and his wife, Katy, Katie Fleener, Curtis Russell and Zoe Orrell, Andrew Kinnett, Lauren Kinnett, Emily Kinnett, Joshua Kinnett and Jake Kinnett; five great-grandchildren, Ayden Hamm, Baylee Fleener, Kinsley Orrell, Conner Orrell and Alexander Fleener. Gene is also survived by his brother, Steven Blansett and his wife Janet and a host of family and friends.
