Sherri (Rhodes) Mitchell, 56, lifelong resident of Shawnee, Oklahoma passed away Thursday, January 2, 2019 in Midwest City.

She was born January 4, 1963 to Johnny and Judy (Sanders) Matthews in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Sherri was raised in Shawnee and attended Shawnee Public Schools. She graduated with the class of 1981 from Shawnee High School. Sherri attended Seminole State Junior College and earned her associate’s degree.

Sherri married Curtis Mitchell on February 15, 1999 in Shawnee, Oklahoma

She was a homemaker and also worked outside the home at Worthington Pump as a machinist, in the mailroom at Shawnee News Star and as a cook at the Juvenile Rehab Center in Shawnee.

Sherri attend Open Door Church of God. She enjoyed reading, animals, working puzzles and making pine cone wreaths at Christmas time. She enjoyed life and loved to laugh and loved having her family visit and spending with them. Her grandchildren were the focal point of her life.

She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Elizabeth Marie Rhodes; parents; and nephew, David Lee Bynum.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Curtis Mitchell of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Ana Rhodes of Shawnee, OK; daughter, Kiah Mitchell of Shawnee, OK; 2 grandchildren, Gracie Lee Rainwater and Josefina Mia Rhodes; 2 sisters and 1 brother-in-law, Molly Bynum of Noble, OK and Ratheda and Bill Gillis of Oklahoma City, OK; and many loving friends and extended family.

Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 8, 2020 and 9:00 a.m., Thursday, January 9, 2020 thru service time. Service will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 9, 2020 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in Tecumseh under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
