Carter Tacker, school janitor, dies Wednesday

Carter J. Tacker, 62, of 1016 N. Louisa, died Wednesday morning, September 27, 1961 at 7:30 at the Jefferson grade school, where he had been custodian for the past five years.

Mr. to Tacker's body was discovered by a school lunch room worker as she was walking along the north side of Jefferson school early Wednesday morning.

Officers called to investigate the death said Mr. Tacker had a two – inch long cut on the right side of his head above his ear. The report continued that a physician said the wound was probably caused when Mr. Tacker struck his head on the brick wall of the school after having a heart attack.

However, officers said they are still investigating the death.

Mr. Tacker was born January 1, 1899, in Hardin County, Tennessee. He farmed southwest of Shawnee from 1907 until moving into Shawnee about six years ago. He suffered a heart attack at the school Wednesday morning shortly after going to work.

He was a member of the Assembly of God.

Funeral services have been set for Friday at 2:30 PM in the Assembly of God, 11th and Elm Streets. Rev. C. O. Beauford, pastor, and Rev. Robert Rider, Tecumseh, will officiate.

Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Gaskill's Funeral Home.

Survivors include his widow, Letha Maple Tacker, of the home; two sons, Carter J. Tacker Jr., and John C. Tacker, both of Midwest City; seven daughters, Mrs. Maple Pringle of Tecumseh, Mrs. Darrell Shelton of Midwest City, Mrs. C. O. Davis of 810 E. Seymour, Mrs. B. D. Huff of Route 4, Mrs. Linval Tague of 1810 N. Park, Patsy and Nancy Tacker of the home.

Also six brothers, Moody Tacker of Shawnee, Wilson Tacker of Claremore, Loyal Tacker of San Antonio, Texas, Hugh Tacker of Chicago, Harold Tacker of Seattle, and Heber Tacker, Hillsboro, Texas; 16 grandchildren and one great – grandchild.hawnee, Wilson Tacker of Claremore, Loyal Tacker of San Antonio, Texas, Hugh Tacker of Chicago, Harold Tacker of Seattle, and Heber Tacker, Hillsboro, Texas; 16 grandchildren and one great – grandchild.
