George William Cope, age 86 of Shawnee, Oklahoma passed from this life Sunday, June 16, 2024 in Midwest City, Oklahoma
He was born on October 9, 1937 in Dallas, Texas and adopted as a baby by William "Bill" and Ila Christine (Northcutt) Cope.
George was raised in Shawnee and Tecumseh and graduated from Tecumseh High School.
He served in the US Navy from 1956-1959 and was honorably discharged.
George married Erona Jane Classen on August 6, 1960 in Fairview, Oklahoma.
He worked for Tinker Air Force Base as a Production Controller, and retired after 33 years of service.
George was a member of the Shawnee Masonic Lodge, Shawnee Rifle and Pistol Club, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and the Shawnee / Prague Church of God. He was an extra class amateur radio operator.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Bill and Christine Cope.
Those left to cherish his memory is his wife, Erona Cope of the home; son Daniel R. Cope and wife Alison of Shawnee; son Michael L. Cope and wife Bobbie of Calumet; son James Kevin Cope of Shawnee; granddaughter, Katherine E. Cope and wife Emily of North Logan, UT; two great-granddaughters, Roslin and Ripley Cope, and other family and friends.
Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Cooper Funeral Home with family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to greet friends and family. Service will be 11:00 AM Friday, June 21, 2024 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ed Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Shawnee, Oklahoma under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
