Guqueta Lee Austin Bruza

August 13, 1937 ~ August 11, 2012

Guqueta Lee Bruza went to her eternal home with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, August 11, 2012, at the age of 74 after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born August 13, 1937, in Okemah to John and Selma Austin.

Guqueta grew up in Sparks and moved to Meeker in the fourth grade.

She received her BA in education from Central State University. Within her first year of teaching third grade in Oklahoma City, she married her high school friend and love of her life, Jim Bruza, on November 6, 1959, beginning a joyous union of 54 years which blessed them with five children: three boys, Jeff, Jim and John; and two girls, Jackie and Jennifer.

She sacrificed her public teaching career and dedicated her life to training her children up in the ways of the Lord and cultivating a nurturing home filled with unconditional, sacrificial love.

Guqueta was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church and helped establish their satellite ministry, now known as Spring Creek Baptist Church. Her church home for the past 15 years was Heritage Baptist Church.

She cherished the teaching of truth, Bible study and fellowship with family and friends. She was passionate about her Savior and lived faithfully reflecting Christ Jesus' identity in all she did.

Guqueta is survived by her husband of the home in Oklahoma City; five children, Jeff Bruza of Odessa, Texas; Jim and Margret Bruza of Edmond; John Bruza of Philadelphia; Jackie and Chris Buckley of Plano, Texas; and Jennifer and Paul Harper of McKinney, Texas; five grandsons, Josh Bruza, Luke and Brett Harper, Colin and Gavin Buckley; one brother, Bob Austin of Brownsville, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Joye Henderson of Meeker and Sue Guillory of Newhall, California; and many nieces and nephews; as well as friends.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 16, at Heritage Baptist Church, 14317 N. Council Rd., Oklahoma City, with a brief burial service at 2:30 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery, 1400 N Center Ave, Shawnee, 878-1529.

Public viewing will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, August 15, at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper.

Donations may be made in her honor with Samaritan's Purse at www.samaritanspurse.org or the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.

Condolences may be left at www.hahncookfuneral.com.

We are forever grateful for all the family and friends who have been a constant source of encouragement and support for our mother and family. You are all precious reminders of our Lord's perfect care and provision. Far above rubies was she.
