Wanda Lee (Cole, Myers) Brown went to her eternal rest with Jesus, Monday, January 2, 2022, living 97 years, 2 months and 10 days.
She was born to Hester and John Cole in Shawnee on October 21, 1924. She attended and graduated from Shawnee High. She married Billy Jack Myers Senior after high school. Moved to Texas where their children were born. Bill passed away in 1959. Earlier in her life she worked at Douglas Field as a “Real Rosie”, riveting the tail section on the C47 aircraft during World War 2. After the war she became a home maker raising her children. Surviving this union is Janie (Myers) Walls and husband Stan of Lubbock Texas, Billy Jack Jr. (Jack) Myers of Kellyville, Oklahoma and James (Jim) Myers of Shawnee, Oklahoma.
In 1961 Wanda met and married Howard Brown, he passed away in 1996, surviving this union is Howard’s and Wanda’s son Kenneth Brown and his wife Rachel, Howard’s two sons Delloyd Brown, his wife Vernette of Shawnee, Oklahoma and Danny Brown of Shawnee.
Wanda had always been faithful to her faith in Jesus, attended Church and taught Sunday school from an early age and continued to teach a class while living with her daughter (Janie) in Little field, Texas, also starting a prison ministry while living in Littlefield, taught there until its closure and taught Sunday school until about 2004. She retired from Tinker Field AFB in 1996, also at Tinker she led a lunch time Bible study. She had also worked as a waitress, phone operator in an auto supply company and sold Fuller Brushes.
Also preceding her in death are her parents, step daughter, Yvonne (Brown) Stout, sister, Willie Farris, brothers-in-law, Vernon Farris and Johnny Nix. She is survived by sisters, Carolyn Torres and husband Vern, Billie Nix, Joy Oldham and husband Raymond. Brothers, Howard and wife Juanita Cole and Harold and wife Virginia Cole. 9 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
The family is very grateful for the great care that she received from Shawnee Care Center where she has lived the last six years. They were always ready to help with any requests that the family had and made mom’s life pleasant and secure, we thank you very much. Also, the doctors and nurses at SSM St. Anthony’s ER for the great care that she received and thanks to Dr. Anderson for always being available. A special thanks to Valir Hospice Care that responded so fast and made mom’s last hours peaceful.
Visitation will be 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 5, 2022 and continue through service time. Service will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 6, 2022 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Jeremy Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
