Gerald Donald Hillerman, age 83, of Tecumseh, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his children, on Saturday, November 18, 2023.
Gerald was born November 20, 1939 in Sacred Heart, Oklahoma to Leo G. and Beuna M. (Dustman) Hillerman.
Gerald was raised in Shawnee and graduated from St. Benedict Catholic School. He attended Oklahoma Baptist University, and the Oklahoma City University School of Law.
He married Carolyn M. Donat on August 16, 1963 in Shawnee, OK.
Gerald had a desire to follow a career path that would allow him to be of service to other people. He worked for Mercy Hospital as a Medical Technologist for a total of 52 years. During his time at Mercy he fulfilled an additional dream of becoming an attorney, and he graduated from law school and practiced law for a short time. He was a member of the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation from 1971-1981, National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute: Lipid Research Study. He was a longtime member of Saint Benedict Catholic Church. He was a cattle rancher at his place in Tecumseh.
In his younger days he enjoyed coaching little league, hunting, fishing, playing tennis and golf. Later in life he was an avid reader of true crime and history novels, and frequented farm shows with his Carolyn. He was a man of many interests and talents and could do most anything he tried. He spent many hours driving his boat for his family on the lake, where he would often have a distinct sunburn. He was very much loved by his family, friends, and his co-workers.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 47 years, Carolyn M. Hillerman; his brother, Eugene Hillerman, and his sister, Virginia (Hillerman) Amend.
Gerald is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Hillerman and Alan Pratt of Oklahoma City; his son, Geoffrey and Pam Hillerman , of Oklahoma City; his son, Michael and Julie Hillerman, of Moore; his daughter, Holly (Hillerman) Nigh of Tecumseh; seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren; and numerous other family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at Calvary Cemetery with Father Brashears officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
