Surrounded by his loving family, Gordon "Gordy" Stanley Gutkowski, 76, of Shawnee, was called home by Our Blessed Lord on Nov. 1, 2014. Gordy was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on April 3, 1938. He graduated from Pulaski High School in 1956 and proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1962. During his tenure in the Navy, Gordy sailed on the U.S.S. Constellation and he often spoke fondly of his days at sea. Prior to joining the Navy, Gordy worked at Allen-Bradley in Milwaukee, the company to which he returned for a 46-year career. On July 12, 1961, Gordy married Christine Miller, a union that flourished for 53 years. In 1976, Gordy's job at Allen-Bradley offered an opportunity to move from Milwaukee to Oklahoma. With his wife and four children in tow, Gordy became the proud owner of 5 acres in rural Shawnee. Not missing a beat, he became an active member of St. Benedict Catholic Church in Shawnee and contributed his time, talent and treasure to the parish. Gordy was a certified Master Gardener and you could often see his handiwork on the grounds of St. Benedict. Gordy loved fishing, swimming, reading, and his computer. Mostly he loved to spend time with his family and friends, and the feeling was always mutual. Gordy is survived by his wife, Christine Gutkowski of the home, three children, Christopher Gutkowski and wife Lori Sander-Gutkowski of Oklahoma City, Marcia Curto and husband Tom of Fleming Island, Florida, and Jodie Gutkowski and partner Jeffrey Roblow of Oklahoma City; brother Richard Gutkowski and wife Karen of Lyons, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Brigette Krebs and husband Mike of Fleming Island, Florida, Curtis Masterson and wife Sara of Yukon, Andrew Mayfield of Oklahoma City, Joey Curto of Fleming Island, Florida, and Nathan Gutkowski of Oklahoma City; one great-grandson, Jackson Masterson of Yukon, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including very special neighbors of 38 years, Pete and Lorna Blochowiak. Gordy was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Francis Gutkowski, his brother, Curtis Gutkowski, and his beloved daughter, Phyllis Mayfield. A wake will be held Thursday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 632 N. Kickapoo, Shawnee. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Nov. 7, at 10 a.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church, with interment immediately following at Calvary Cemetery in Shawnee. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
