JOE SMITH
1927 - 2016


Joe Smith, 88, of Tecumseh, Oklahoma passed away Monday, July 4, 2016 in Shawnee.
He was born November 7, 1927 to Fred and Mary Reeves Smith in Yukon, Oklahoma.
Joe was raised in Yukon and was a 1944 graduate of Yukon High School.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II as a mechanic and was honorably discharged.
He married Carol Ann Dunn on February 24, 1962 in Oklahoma City and she preceded him in death on October 29, 2002.
Joe took up farming while living in Yukon and when he moved to Tecumseh in 1962 he continued farming and ranching. He was also owner and operator of Smith Propane.
He enjoyed riding horses and bird hunting, but most of all he loved working on his farm.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Smith; son, Mark Smith; daughter, Aleisa Sherrill; parents, Fred and Mary Smith and brother, Everett Smith.
Survivors include his two sons and one daughter-in-law, Teri and Dawn Smith of Banner, Oklahoma and Kim Smith of Tecumseh, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren, Rachel Bowden, Jared Smith, Ashley and Cody Humphrey of San Diego, California; Kyle and Brittany Smith of Macomb, Oklahoma, Jeremy and Danni Smith of Tecumseh, Oklahoma, Stefnie Sherrill of Tecumseh, Oklkahoma, Travis and August Sherrill of Land O’Lakes, Florida and Joeci Sherrill and Bladean Sherrill of Tecumseh, Oklahoma; four great-grandchildren, Raylee, Stetson, Audie and Annaleise; two sisters, Jewlee Vontunglin of El Reno, Oklahoma and Marilyn Good of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; brother-in-law, Sam Dunn of Mustang, Oklahoma and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
Visitation will begin 12:00 noon, Wednesday, July 6, 2016 and continue through service time. Service will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 7, 2016 at New Hope Baptist Church with Reverend Will Wilson officiating.
Burial will follow at Brown Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
