Services for Phillip Wayne Roddy, 77, of Ada, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 24th at Criswell Funeral Home Chapel in Ada, Oklahoma. David Gray will officiate. Burial will follow at Swan Hill Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 23rd at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mr. Roddy passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017 at a Shawnee Hospital. He was born October 18, 1939 in Atoka, Oklahoma to Arnim K. and Jewel Phillips Roddy. He graduated from Ada High School. He also received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Human Resources from East Central University and a Master’s degree in Psychology/Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling from Oklahoma State University.
Early in his adult life, Mr. Roddy worked for the U.S. Postal Service and owned/co-owned several businesses in Oklahoma and Texas. Later in life, Mr. Roddy accepted a position with the Texas Department of Rehabilitation Services as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor. After retiring from this job, Mr. Roddy began his own business as a Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist and Advocate and represented hundreds of disabled persons across the United States in successful efforts to improve the quality of life for his clients.
Mr. Roddy is survived by and will be greatly missed by two daughters, Dianne Bingamon, (and her husband Dobber) and Carolyn Roddy, all of Ada. He is also survived by other family members including a sister, Geneva Johnson of Ada; niece Nikki Rupe (and her husband Jerry and family of Dallas); niece Kaye Ely (and her husband Steve and family of Ada); niece Leisa Austin of Palm Desert California; nephew Richy Johnson (and his wife Kathy and family of Ada); brother-in-law Rev. Fred Huff (and his wife Carla and family of Onalaska, Texas); and many other loving relatives, in-laws and friends.
Mr. Roddy was preceded in death by his father Arnim Roddy at a very young age; his mother Jewel Roddy Bunyard; step-father Jack Bunyard; brother-in-law JR Johnson and other loving relatives and in-laws.
Pallbearers will be Richy Johnson, Dobber Bingamon, Steve Ely, Chad Palmer, Jerry Rupe and Brandon Moore. Honorary Pallbearers will be Charles Roberts and Earl Bingamon.
Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Trinity Baptist Church in Ada, Oklahoma or to Livingston First Church of the Nazarene in Livingston, Texas.
