Services for Derrell Dean Meek, 56, of Ada will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Ada First Baptist Church, Pastor Reno Dye will officiate. Burial will follow at Swan Hill Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mr. Meek died Sunday, October 8, 2017 at a local hospital. He was born April 20, 1961 in Tucson, AZ to Virgil Lavoid and Delores Ann Pittman Foster. He graduated from Byng High School.
Derrell “Pa” was dedicated to his family and found true happiness in life on the farm with family. His work ethic and selflessness are a living testimony to the legacy he leaves behind. He would often make four hour round trips with his wife Cheryl for their grandson’s 30 minute baseball games and then spend all night hauling hay with his sons just to help out. Derrell spent countless hours volunteering his auctioneer and spur making skills for multiple charities. His love, discipline, compassion and brilliance will certainly have a lasting impact on everyone he touched.
He married Cheryl Lynn Hunt on March 27, 1981 in Ada. He was the Site and Service Manager for Great Plains Kubota. Mr. Meek was a member of the Fittstown Baptist Church and he was a Master Mason. He enjoyed land management, hunting, team roping, building spurs, raising cattle and especially his grandkids.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl of the home; two sons, Tanner Meek and wife Julie of Bixby, and Tagus Meek and wife Shelby of Fittstown; his mother, Delores Foster, of Ada; two brothers, Steve Meek and wife Claudia of Sulphur, and Mike Meek and wife Paula of Holdenville; two sisters, Debbie Allen and husband Johnny of Kingston, and Stacy Hopper and husband Freddie of Ada; four grandchildren, Tucker Meek, Hadley Meek, Jade Meek and a grandson to be born in March; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Virgil Lavoid Meek.
Bearers will be Mark Manuel, Steve Meek, Mike Meek, Freddie Hopper, Jon Tully and Craig Whipple. Honorary bearers will be Sam Hunt, Kenny Fortner, Marvin Carter, Brad Stafford and Chuck Lancaster.
