Preston Ted Layne, always was known by his middle name “Ted” , age 88, died because he just ran out of time on Monday, September 9, 2019, in Ada, OK.

Ted is survived by his wife, Lessie McMahan , of Stratford, OK; his son, Ted Neil Layne, his wife Debra, of Boulder, CO, grandsons Todd Layne, wife Jenna Layne, great grandsons, Dash and Jax Layne and Scott Layne, wife Tiana, great granddaughters Tiare and Mahina Layne; and his daughter Toni Jenkins of Francis, OK, her husband Jay Jenkins, granddaughter Lora O’Gwin, great granddaughters Chloe and Haylee O’Gwin and daughter Tina Dawn Pogue and Larry Crow, Ada, OK, grandson Weston Pogue and numerous nieces and nephews; his brother Doss Layne of Salt Lake City, Utah, his sister Retha Moffatt of Mabank, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his parents Pem and Thelma Layne, his sisters Eva Lee Gordon of Atoka, OK and Kathleen Satterfield of Wichita, KS.

Ted was born on November 28, 1930 in Ferris, Ok, to parents Pem and Thelma Layne. He graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State College in 1963 with a teaching degree. In 1963, he moved to Nida, OK and accepted the first of several teaching positions. He was the principal and taught multiple classes in small schools in Oklahoma and Louisiana. In 1969 Ted moved his family to Ada, Oklahoma and ran the Panther Drive Inn in Latta. He moved on from there to work in the Ada School System for many years until his retirement.

He married Tommie Jean Johnson in 1951 and the couple had 3 wonderful children together.

Ted was a social, active man who was enjoyed laughing and telling jokes with his close friends for the majority of his life. He enjoyed hunting, singing, dancing and watching sports. His family and friends will always remember him as a generous and jovial person.

Memorial/Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
