Susan Hawkins passed away peacefully with family by her side on October 6th, 2023. She was a loving Wife, Mother, Nana, Aunt, Sister, and Cousin. She always had family in mind and loved chasing after her 5 granddaughters. She was a leader and an influencer. There’s a good chance that you called her Nana even if she wasn’t technically your Nana.
Susan was a passionate person and showed that passion in many ways. She sought higher education by earning her Bachelor’s Degree from East Central University and her Master’s Degree from the University of Oklahoma in social work. She worked 43 years as a public servant where she began her career under the Department of Human Services of Oklahoma. She retired as the Visual Services Field Coordinator under the Department of Rehabilitative Services. She was intelligent, a servant leader, and a valuable resource in both her professional career and her personal life. Her other passions included reading, traveling with her husband, working in her flower beds, and most of all attending all of her granddaughters’ events. She was their number one fan.
She was born June 7, 1948 in Ada, OK to J. W. “Bill” and Charlotte Ross Hollis. She married Phillip Hawkins on November 7, 1969 in Durant, OK.
She is survived by her husband Phillip Hawkins of Ada; two sons Casey Hawkins and wife Wendy, Ada; Zac Hawkins and wife Jennifer, Ada; five grandchildren Allysen Taylor and husband Lane, Lauryn Hawkins and Reese Siegle, Jayli Hawkins, Addisyn Hawkins, Isabel Hawkins; honorary granddaughters Julia Hawkins, Abby Fredrick; and her brother E. H. “Butch” Hollis, Hamilton, Montana. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother John Hollis.
