Services for Herman Walker, 81, of Ada are 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at the Chickasaw Nation Community Center, Rev. Jerry Parnacher and Rev. Randy Golden will officiate. Burial will follow at Steedman Cemetery. A Wake service will be at 5:00 p.m. Monday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel.
Herman passed away peacefully Thursday, October 7, 2022 at his home in Ada.
Herman was born on January 31,1941 to Simon and Pauline Walker in Allen, Oklahoma. He attended Allen School and went on to be a long time employee at Otasco and Walmart as a auto-mechanic. He also worked briefly with the Chickasaw Nation Nutrition Services department.
On September 17, 1963, Herman married Opal Mae Gibson, sharing a beautiful life together as well as two children, Thurman Walker and Debbie Carnes. Herman absolutely loved his family, and he cherished the time he spent with them. He would proudly attend any of his children, grandchildren, or great grandchildren’s activities or sporting events. Herman was known as OU’s biggest fan, but he held the title of “Number One Fan”, for his family. Herman also enjoyed playing and watching softball, and he was an avid cornhole competitor.
Herman is preceded in death by his wife, Opal Mae Walker; parents, Simon and Pauline Walker; grandson Daniel Walker; sisters, Gladys Johnson, and Sally Graham, and brother Wordley Walker.
Herman is survived by his daughter Debbie Carnes and husband Gerald “Sonny” of Ada; son, Thurman Dewayne Walker of Ada; three brothers, Virgil Walker, Tony Walker and wife Carolyn, and Gary Walker and wife LaVern; two sisters Rosie Postoak, and Hazel Wallace; five grandchildren, Michael Carnes, Gabriel Walker, Jared Walker, Jalena Walker and Mahayla Walker; six great-grandchildren, Kyle Carnes, Jadyce Burns, Sari Walker, Aubrey Walker, Irie Kellner Walker and Zeke “Cubby” Kellner Walker
Pallbearers: Michael Carnes, Jared Walker, Kyle Carnes, Tim Postoak, Darrell Walker, and Merle Stick Jr. Honorary Pall Bearers: Ada Tribes Softball Team, Gary Walker, Virgil Walker, Tony Walker, Gabriel Walker, Gerald Carnes, Kevin Walker, and Blake Walker.
