Mrs. Winton passed away Friday, September 7, 2018 at an Oklahoma City hospital. She was born March 2, 1937 in Oklahoma City to Leamon L. and Lillian Allsup Hames. She attended Bridge Creek grade school and Chickasha and Enid High schools. She married Wiley E. Winton October 1, 1971 in Ada. Mrs. Winton graduated from East Central University May 13, 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Special Education and Social Studies. She received a Master’s Degree in Psychometry and Learning Disabilities on August 1, 1974. Mrs. Winton was an Elementary School Counselor for the Stratford School System and a Psychometrist for the Oklahoma State Department of Education. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ada, a member of the OEA and Oklahoma Counseling Association; the Oklahoma Retired Educators Association; Preceptor Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority; and the Mature Melody Makers. Carol was a hardworking and resilient person. She enrolled in college after her daughters were in school and went part-time for several years to earn her degrees. She loved children and really enjoyed her career in education helping hundreds of children. In retirement she and her husband Wiley enjoyed traveling with friends in the U. S., visiting other countries, and spending time with her grandchildren. She liked to have fun and we will miss her laughter and smile always. Survivors include her husband, Wiley, of the home; three daughters, Cynthia Hoyle and husband Sheldon Katz, Urbana, IL, Susan Wood and husband Bud, Nashville, TN and Julie Ozbirn and husband Lonnie, Sulphur; a son, Tony Winton and wife Ima Jean of Stonewall; a brother, Jackie Hames and wife Dorothy, Tuttle; two granddaughters, Sarah Hoyle-Katz and Audra Marie Wood; four grandsons, Aaron Hoyle-Katz, Tanner Winton, Leyton Winton and Landon Winton; and two great-grandchildren.
