Services for Irene Lackey Peters, 88, of Ada, are 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 11 at First Baptist Church in Ada. Rev. John Haynes will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery.
Irene died Thursday, June 2 at a local hospital. She was born December 21, 1927 in Norfolk, Baxter County, Arkansas to Lee Bryan and Della Virginia Silvertooth Lackey.
Irene graduated from McLish High School in 1946. She attended East Central State College. During her working years, Irene was employed by various Ada businesses: Stall’s Studio, Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company, Culligan and First National Bank.
Irene was a member of First Baptist Church, Ada, and the Faith Sunday School class. She became a Christian in April, 1948.
Irene married Raymond Verlon “Ray” “Pete” Peters on February 25, 1962 in Ada. She enjoyed traveling with Pete to places such as Trinidad, Port of Spain, San Salvador, England and Holland.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ray Peters, her sister Wilma Bunyard, her brother L. B. Lackey, Jr.
Irene was a loving mother to her surviving children, D.E. Brower and his wife Niki of Yukon, OK; and Linda Brower Hambright of Moore, OK. She is survived by two sisters, Billie Holt, Ada and Janelle Robinson, Fittstown; two brothers, James Lackey, Stonewall and Lewis Lackey, Quitman, Arkansas; numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
Grandchildren include Alex McDougal and husband Ryan; Jessica Brower; Jordan Mobley and husband Devon; Beth Parsons and husband Matt; Robyn Schuff and husband Jim; Wendi Archer and husband Ray; Juli Hambright.
Great Grandchildren include Connor Schuff, Taylor Schuff, Jack Parsons and Ruby Parsons.
Bearers will be Steve Baxter, Greg Taylor, Ray Archer, David Simpson, Mitch Robinson, Matt Robinson, Connor Schuff and Garrett Greuel.
The family thanks Ada Mercy Hospital doctors, nurses and staff for the compassionate care and comfort given to “Miss Irene.” A special thank you goes to Dr. Anas Alsadi, Nicole Smith NP and Sandy Chambless RN – our angel of mercy.
