Graveside services for Robert Edward Mapp, 58, of Ada are 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Rosedale Cemetery, Rev. Coy Howry will officiate.
Mr. Mapp passed away Saturday, June 27, 2020 at a local hospital. He was born January 23, 1962 in Ada to Lee Roy and Audrey Gammill Mapp. He lived in this area all his life. Robert attended Washington Grade School and graduated from Ada High School where he was a star football player and All State in wrestling. He traveled to Poland after high school to represent the United States on the Junior Olympic wrestling team. Upon high school graduation, Robert attended the University of Oklahoma on a wrestling scholarship and where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in August of 1987.
Robert worked in construction for many years and volunteered as a wrestling coach with the Ada Boys Club. He was of the Methodist faith. He had many longtime friends and was fiercely loyal to them. Robert could always be counted on for making others laugh with his quick wit and sense of humor. In addition to sports, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending times outdoors.
Survivors include his mother, Audrey Gammill Mapp, of Ada; a brother, Mike Mapp and wife Vicky, Ada; two sisters, Patty Mapp Turner and husband Harry, Henderson, NV and Janie Christian and husband John, Ada; his nieces and nephews, Christi Turner Jacobs, Tanner Thompson, Tiffany Thompson, Christopher Adair Turner, Katie Turner Low, Stephen Mapp, and Tierra Christian; his great-nephews, Tagen Thompson, and Austin Christopher Conger; and great-niece, Stella Rae Low.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lee Roy Mapp; and his grandparents, Leroy and Helen Mapp and Jim and Merle Gammill.
