Services for Sam Paul Jewell, 82, of Ada are 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Harold Ware will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. The Chickasaw Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Criswell Funeral Home.

Mr. Jewell passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at the Sulphur Veterans Center. He was born June 17, 1936 at Paducah, TX to George and Fonda Lewis Jewell. He attended Ada schools.

Mr. Jewell served in the U. S. Navy from 1954 – 1974. He served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War as a pilot, retiring as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. Later, he owned and operated Ada Charter Service as a private pilot and was a member of local Chapter 1005 of the Experimental Aircraft Assoc. Mr. Jewell was an outstanding marksman during his military service. He was an active member of the Ada Pistol Club and had served as president. Sam was also active in the local ham radio club.

He married Ann Nanney Brandon June 1, 1976.

Survivors include his wife, Ann, of the home; a son, Ken Jewell of Ada; step-son, Ernest Patrick of Moore; step-daughter, Karen Whelchel of Louisiana; six step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Billy Jewell; sister, Betty Strickland; and a step-son, Mike Merritt.

His grandsons will serve as bearers.
